It is too costly to switch to Natural Gas infrastructure and vehicles

Natural Gas is the most affordable means in which a fleet of work vehicles can operate.  Owning a CNG station at your site of operation can provide you with the ability to reduce your annual fuel expenditures by 50 to 70%.  For instance a garbage truck operating on an average collection route can save $15,000 to $20,000 per year in fuel costs.

Owning your own station
  • Doesn’t require long term contracts with fuel suppliers
  • Doesn’t require take or pay agreements
  • Doesn’t require costly maintenance contracts
  • Doesn’t require a third party to manage
  • Doesn’t require long lead times to install.
  • Building a station can be done in the same time it takes order and get delivery of a new CNG or Diesel vehicle.
  • Doesn’t mean breaking the bank.  A 10 truck CNG station can be built on site for as little as the cost of 2 new garbage trucks.
Owning your own station
  • Allows you to take all the tax credits available for the station owner
  • Allows you to reduce your fuel costs by up to 70% vs. Diesel
  • Allows you to fix your fuel costs for the life of a municipal contract
  • Allows you to perform your own maintenance at substantial savings
  • Allows you to take advantage of onsite fueling.  Efficient fueling will reduce costly overtime
  • Allows you to control your fuel costs. Natural Gas prices can be locked for years
  • Allows you to reduce the price swings associated with Diesel fuel prices
  • Allows a fleet of 10 trucks to save $150,000 annually. A fleet of 100 trucks can save $1,500,000 annually
  • Allows you to get a Return On Investment in as little as 2 years.

Natural Gas Vehicles do not perform as well as Diesel Vehicles and they will not work in my application!

Cummins Westport has produced one of the most reliable Natural Gas engines to date with the 320 hp ISLG engine. It is true that early versions of Natural gas engines were underpowered and were available only in a select couple of OEM chassis configurations. Today’s ISLG engine is available in 95% of chassis configurations used by refuse haulers coast to coast. Autocar, CCC, Freightliner, International, Kenworth, Mack and Peterbilt all have models available with the ISLG engine.  When correctly specified, today’s Cummins Westport ISLG can provide you with better overall performance stop to stop than nearly 75% of diesel engine configurations used in the Refuse industry. Hundreds of operators are using the ISLG to pull loads up to 80,000 lbs daily. The ISLG has been a proven performer since 2006 and unlike 2010 diesel engines, there is no guess work as to whether your truck will operate each day. Today’s ISLG meets all federal EPA requirements through 2015. Lastly, maintenance on today’s CNG engines will be greatly reduced vs. 2010 diesel engines. CNG engines do not have diesel particulate filters and SCR which requires a UREA admix to operate the engine. The UREA admix will increase diesel per gallon costs by an average of 30 cents per gallon as well as take away valuable payload capability. When you put all the facts on the table, CNG is not just a good choice for the environment; it’s the right choice for your operation.

Other Benefits

  • Improve payload by over 1,000 lbs
  • Reduce operating noise by 10 to 15 %
  • Cleaner than diesel by up to 30%
  • Is a sustainable, renewable fuel source
  • Extend oil change intervals
  • Reduce maintenance complexity of chassis
  • Substantially improve maintenance access to chassis and body
  • Improve chassis reliability and uptime
